Good-bye Golden Girl

Golden Girl, 8x10, oil, © June Rollins

I was in the back of the shop working past my usual leaving time on Friday when my co-worker’s text came. Hey there! Exciting news! Your Golden Girl sold!

Bittersweet. Wow, she’d only been in the shop a few weeks? I almost hadn’t brought that painting in. I was going to keep it.

I drive by this white donkey on my way to and from work. I look for it each time. Is she in the red barn or out by the hay bale? On one particular morning, I slowed to take a quick reference photo with my phone. She was glowing in the morning light.

My co-worker jumped when she entered the back of the shop and found me still working. “I thought you’d left.”

I inquired about the buyer.

“She loved it. Said she had a white donkey that looked just like it. She also has Icelandic sheep and may be in touch for you to paint them.”

It sounded like Golden Girl was going to a good home and would be cherished.

As for me, I’ve begun researching Icelandic sheep.

Enjoying the journey,

June
