Alpacas were domesticated by the Incas more than 6000 years ago, mostly bred for their silky fiber which is the most versatile fiber found in nature. They have soft, padded feet that leave even the most delicate grasses and terrain undamaged as they graze.
I’m reminded of the G.K. Chesterton’s quote, Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly. Maybe alpacas can too.
